"My Name is Asher Lev... 'Judith Whitehead' (Inspiration Sunday)

Judith Whitehead lives in Amherst New York
( A suburb of Buffalo, N.Y.)
and has worked in the ophthalmology
field of medicine for over 30 years

My Name is Asher Lev

On November 7, 2015 my husband and I along with our friends decided to attend the play “My Name is Asher Lev”, performed at the Jewish Community Center.

We had read the book many years ago and were anxious to see the performance. The Jewish Repertory Theatre puts on several productions a year in this very intimate room in which every seat offers an excellent view.

The actors Tom Zindle, Adam Yellen and Josie DiVincenzo did an amazing job portraying many characters in the play and
continued non-stop for an hour and half both entertaining, educating and impressing the audience.

Their performances captivated the audience from start to finish and took us to a time long ago when Jewish people were expected to act a certain way and to comport themselves accordingly, if they
were to be practicing and respectable Orthodox Jews.

They portrayed the inner struggle within their family and themselves that kept you drawn into their lives during the entire performance.
We are so lucky to have such fine actors in our area who make it affordable to enjoy the arts in Buffalo.

P.S.
Check out the review in the Buffalo news on this true to life play;

Obama Da Dog currently resides with her best friend

Order in the Court

Get it?
Dogs are color blind!  ;-)

ATTORNEY: Doctor, before you performed the autopsy, did you check for a pulse?
WITNESS:   No.
ATTORNEY: Did you check for blood pressure?
WITNESS:   No.
ATTORNEY: Did you check for breathing?
WITNESS:   No.
ATTORNEY: So, then it is possible that the patient was alive when you began the autopsy?
WITNESS:   No.
ATTORNEY: How can you be so sure, Doctor?
WITNESS:   Because his brain was sitting on my desk in a jar.
ATTORNEY: But could the patient have still been alive, nevertheless?
WITNESS:   Yes, it is possible that he could have been alive and practicing law.

"The Confession..." 'Chester "Unc" Lau' (Source)

Dakinetalk's favorite Uncle (Chester Lau)
"Unc"  is really passionate about creating a national Caregivers day.
Any help , support or ideas would be greatly appreciated...
'Unc' currently resides on the Hawai'ian Island of Oahu.
He is a retired cinematographer,
and  enjoys giving the politicians a bad time...
"I am PRO-CHOICE ON EVERYTHING WITH RESPONSIBILITY..."

The Confession

A boy confesses to his priest.

'Bless me Father, for I have sinned. I have been with a loose girl.'

The priest asks, 'Is that you, little Joey Pagano?'

'Yes, Father, it is.'

'And who was the girl you were with?'

'I can't tell you, Father, I don't want to ruin her reputation.'

'Well, Joey, I'm sure to find out her name sooner or later so you may as well tell me now. Was it Tina Minetti?'

'I cannot say.'

'Was it Nancy Connor?'

'I'll never tell.'

'Was it Judy Cohen?'

'I'm sorry, but I cannot name her.'

'Was it Kate Takenyo?'

'My lips are sealed.'

'Was it Rose DeMarco, then?'

'Please, Father, I cannot tell you.'

The priest sighs in frustration. 'You're very tight lipped, and I admire that.  But you've sinned and have to atone. You cannot be an altar boy now for 4 months. Now you go and behave yourself.'

Joey walks back to his pew, and his friend Franco slides over and whispers, 'What'd you get?'

'A four month holiday and five good leads...' :-D

Happy Veterans to all  vets!

Thanks for your service to America, Unc!

"THE PROVINCES..." Bettejo Dux' (Vintage Bettejo)

Bettejo Dux has lived on the cosmic Garden
Island of Kaua'i for over 40 years.
Bettejo is a regular opinion writer in the Garden Island news
and is the author of the famed novella, "The Scam."
 Her latest fiction"Children of extinction"
is now  released and available on Amazon!
Bettejo has a gift of mingling
the present, the past, and the future.
THE PROVINCES

I'm the lady from the provinces. In fact,  I'm  an expatriate at heart.
Bettejo breaking bread and
 discussing life with her friend
and mentor, Richard Dawkins.

At 36 I'd spent as much time living abroad as I had living at home and Kauai was about as far out as you could get without a Passport.
It was a feudal state. Sugar was King. Sugar, that historically  infamous dollar crop, held  sway.  Those glorious fields, that glorious crop, that  long green, dancing- in- the- wind grass that worked  two long years keeping our air the freshest,  the healthiest in the world. (Maybe that's why so many of us who lived  those years ripened so well.) Their beauty. Yellow tasseled heads stopped traffic as did a spectacular death in red/gold flames early in the quiet winds of morning. An occasional flume of gray throat- itching smoke belched by, but we  forgave it that.
Bettejo enjoys time with her
friend Aristotle

There were hundreds  of miles of bridle paths,  maintained just for me and my entourage--one horse, two ponies running  free-- and so many dogs I've lost count. We often  encountered a cane truck or a helicopter and our jaunts always crossed with  the field hands who greeted us with soft  smiles and friendly  greetings, "Good morning, Mrs. Bill Dux," they'd call and  I'd smile  back. They were as much a part of this enchanting landscape as the cane itself. The cane mules, during planting season, brayed  love  to my frolicky leopard--Beauregard the gaudy Appaloosa--who pranced by, head up, tail high.

Truly, I could not imagine a more delightful way to spend a morning. To begin a day. To face the coming hours  of work and play and who- knows- what- else lay ahead.

Just as sugar was King,  so were the managers. The department heads were lords and ladies of the manor. I was not much into the social life, women in America are much different from women who--excepting those in the military or Embassy world who were always the same-- lived in a cosmopolitan community abroad.

We lived on the water. Kept our beloved Warpath at anchor in front of the house, my horses in the red barn across the way. Somehow Bill and I managed to combine, successfully, the horsey and  sailing set. Sailing these water--Bill and I--was too vast another world to describe briefly. But at night, beneath a sparkle strewn sky  and moon wide wonder--no phones, no worldly distractions--was an experience that kept our feet planted firmly on solid ground when they had to be. We lost Warpath during Ewa and Flash, Beau and Billy are buried here. Bill's ashes scattered.

Today it's a third world. The rich. The poor. Cane is a dear memory lost in concrete- coated  madness.  I see more cars driving to Lihue than there were on the Island 46 years ago. We've traffic jams--engine to hatchback-- expelling so much CO2 it's a wonder any of us survive. Let's don't talk about toxic sprays.
Some people call this progress?

Bettejo's new priceless possession is Richard Dawkins' "Brief  Candle in the Dark."

"There's a lady named Siri..." 'James "Kimo" Rosen' (Kimo's world #97)

James "Kimo" Rosen was one of the last people
in America without a cell phone.
Rosen currently talks to 'Siri' on a regular basis.
Rosen  lives with his best friend
and spiritual advisor Obama  Da Dog
on the cosmic Garden Island of Kauai...
Kimo's world #97

This blog also appeared in the 12-14-15 edition the Kaua'i Garden Island news;

There's a lady named Siri

I was always somewhat proud to tell people that  I was one of the last people in America to not have a cell phone. That all changed on my last trip to the United States of America. My cousin Ron kept teasing me about living in a third world country--- and this and that and the other thing...

Cousin Ron and  James "Kimo" Rosen
at the local Holocaust memorial
at the Jewish center of Greater Buffalo.

Finally he said, "you really need to get an iPhone."  I said, I can't afford an iPhone and I really don't want one. He said, "how about  I take you to the iPhone store right now and I buy you an iPhone?" 'You serious?' "yeah I'm serious." he said.

My life has changed, it is much different, I now take pictures with my telephone and talk to people on my camera. I listen to music on Pandora for free, anything form traditional Jewish folk songs to rock-n-roll and in between.

There's a lady named 'Siri,' you can ask any question  your mind can conjure up, or for directions to anywhere in the world and she will direct you there since the iPhone knows your coordinates of longitude and latitude. I can video chat with any other person with an iPhone, Skype or Facetime on Facebook.
This meme was used on
Facebook to promote this blog

I did not even have to type this blog, I dictated it to the the iPhone. The  only mistake Siri made in typing was calling dictation, "Dick Tation!."
And that could had been my fault for improper pronunciation.

I am waiting for when an app is invented where we can teleport ourselves to anywhere in the world. I am sure that time is coming.

You can also ask Siri fun questions when you are bored. I once asked Siri if she would would marry me. Her reply was, "I sure have gotten a lot of marriage proposals lately, I'm sorry, I am not human so I must decline.

Cousin Ron,  I thank you from the bottom of my heart for bringing me up-to-date in technology and for your friendship and  love, all of which I've missed for so many years.

"Computer blues..." 'Judith Whitehead' (Inspiration Sunday)

Judith Whitehead lives in Amherst New York
( A suburb of Buffalo, N.Y.)
and has worked in the ophthalmology
field of medicine for over 30 years

Computer blues..

This week  I am totally out of sync...

My old computer suddenly would not boot up. I have grown attached to the old  girl. she is six years old and has been in repair before--first a new battery, and new keyboard and now she faces a new hard drive.

I am hoping for the best. I could buy a new one for a little more than the hard drive, etc, however  she looks so good, not a scratch on her and has carried me through some tough times.

Thank goodness I had the foresight to back her up when she started acting funny.  Hoping I can reload her new hard drive good as new?

Keeping my fingers crossed that the computer Doc can fix her--hate breaking in new electronics.

Judy, Judy, Judy!  ;-)

It is the VETERAN , not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the VETERAN , not the campus organizer, who has given us freedom to assemble.

It is the VETERAN , not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the VETERAN , not the politician, Who has given us the right to vote.

It is the VETERAN , who salutes the Flag, It is the VETERAN , who serves under the Flag, ETERNAL REST GRANT UNTO THEM, O LORD, AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON THEM.
Mahalos to Unc and to all our
family and friends who have served our
great country!
  A special hero story about my Dear friend Kit Ellison's dad as told by Kit;

My father told us a story of being in WW ll. The rabbi from his division was captured. His lieutenant said to leave him as he was 1 man and the lieutenant wasn't about to lose 6 to save 1. My dad went back alone, quietly captured each German soldier and rescued the rabbi. When the rabbi saw it was my father he asked dad why? After all I am a Jew. Dad said he looked him in the eye and said, so what?  I'm an Indian! Now can we get our butts out of here? They took their prisoners back with them. 😊  Dad earned 6 more eagle feathers that day and a months KP but he said it was worth it. No matter what you call Him, God, Great Spirit, Greater Being, it all boils down to God  and my father knew it. Rabbi Rosenblat agreed as he was the one dad saved.
