The right to Vote (Special Election Day inspiration!)
I remember when I became the age 18 and was given the right to vote; it was Richard Nixon who won that year and I was excited to finally be able to vote and add my 2 cents to the millions of others that lined up at the voting booth. Back then I went behind the small curtain and registered my opinion by pulling the large metal arm to make my vote count. Now a days we vote at a Senior center nearby and fill out a paper and place it in a scanner to make our voice heard.
This year has proven to bring out many feelings among the American people; most of them not pleasant. Our two candidates are in a race to the finish – many accusations have been slung, many feelings have been awoken among the people; so much as to confuse the people and disturb so many.
It has proven to be a fight to the finish and will not stop then. I am sure there will be much fall out depending on the outcomes. It is true in our country that the only requirement to become president of the U.S. Is to be American born and not be a criminal.
After I see what has occurred all year between these two candidates, the bickering and accusations, the
bantering and hurt feelings etc. I ask myself “who on earth would want to be a President”.
When I see what happens in other countries who are not afforded the right to vote, I am ashamed what has happened in our 'Great Country,' and yes, our country as compared to all others, is 'Great.'
I have lived long enough to witness some very disturbing years under our many Presidents since I began to vote. Some Presidents have decided to throw us into a war, some have tried to get us out of war. Some have coasted by with a seamless presidency free of turmoil; most have not.
It seems in America and pretty much everywhere, we believe what we read. The mighty word carries clout among many, whether those words are true or not. Once some words are in writing, people may doubt its authenticity.
To make an informed decision as to who to vote for, we must read, listen and watch the candidates and decide for ourselves who may be the best representative of our country.
I will exercise my right to vote as always, even though the choices are not optimal in my book. It would be more than sad not to vote after so many fought for that right.
I do believe it will be a very close race and probably sour grapes will follow along with a lot of fall out and this year of 2016 will go down in history as the year of the most opposition, mud slinging and grand standing candidates of all.
It has brought out many unpleasant feelings among the American people and will be interesting how 2017 plays out.
Please vote people...its your right.
