Mahalo Nui Rotary clubs of Kaua'i.." 'Glenn Mickens' (Kauai county watchdog)

Glenn Mickens has lived on Kauai  with his wife Ruth for the last 26 years. Born July 26, 1930 in Wilmar, California, USA) was a pitcher in Major League Baseball. He pitched in four games (two of which were starts) for the 1953 Brooklyn Dodgers. He also played for five years in Japan, from 1959 until 1963 for the Kintetsu Buffaloes. There, he compiled a record of 45–53 with a 2.54 ERA.  Glenn also  served in the Army for 2 years and coached baseball at UCLA for 25 years.
Last but not least Glenn would really like to see Kaua'i give the county manager style of Government a chance.

Mahalos Glenn!
Mahalo Nui Rotary clubs of Kauai

The Garden Island news recently published two fine articles on our Rotary clubs of Kaua'i.

Having watched the wonderful work this fine organization has done over the years for those in need on our Island, it has inspired me to say Mahalo to TGI for giving credit where credit is due and to thank the Rotarian's for all they continually do. And, in particular, my good friend and their ace go to man, Ray Carpenter.
Photo of Ray Carpenter as seen
on his Facebook Timeline

All this they do without asking for one penny from our government to fund the multitude of tasks that they perform like giving scholarships to those who could not afford to go to school (college or trade) without this help; paint, maintain and help seniors who can no longer do their needed choirs; and so many other community services too numerous to list.

Their organization is living proof that with the right leadership, experienced people in charge, no subsidizing (TAXES!) is needed.

Certainly these Rotarian's and all other private organizations that do so much good with so little are only a microcosm of running a government with 70 thousand people.

But certainly our County government could take a page from their successful play books (prioritizing their needs so that income is always greater than outgo with emergency funds left on hand) and make all our county operations more efficient and  successful.
Ray Carpenter of the Rotary Club of Kapaa presents a check to Chris Young of the Junior Achievement, Dr. Monty Downs of the Kauai Lifeguard Association accepts a check from Josie Cortez, president of the Rotary Club of Kapaa, Ron Margolis, past president of the Rotary Club of Kapaa, presents a check to Barbara Nakamura, head of the Mahelona Hospital Psychiatric Unit, and Ric Cox of Aloha Angels accepts a check from Neva Olson of the Rotary Club of Kapaa.

Trump's Political Chess

After this election, the word "racist" has lost all of its meaning. Anyone who does not agree with Democrats, then is racist according to them. The term means nothing anymore. And even less the word “Democrat”

Two Arizona-based Christian artists face fines and the possibility of being jailed after they refused to make invitations for same-sex weddings.
However--a designer dress maker can choose to NOT offer to make a dress for the wife of the President elect? Hypocritical?
http://insider.foxnews.com/2016/12/02/christian-artists-could-be-fined-jailed-refusing-make-same-sex-wedding-invitations

Here's my theory. Trump plays political chess. He told many  Republicans to publicly not back him, making him look more like a renegade.

My theory is the Republican speaker of the house, Paul Ryan along with Mitt Romney were asked to not support him, although they all wanted too, all part of the master political chess game by president elect. Trump is genius.

President elect Trump is always many moves ahead of the opposition and competition, I bet he's many moves ahead of us voters too, but in a good way!

In other news;
Delta Air Lines is apologizing for not removing a passenger from a flight to Pennsylvania who rudely professed his support for President-elect Donald Trump and insulted those who didn’t.

Just like Pence getting preached to at the theater, there's a time and place for political talk. An airplane trip should be a safe zone from politics, air travel is stressful enough. What next, my fast food service Micky D's employee preaching politics to us?
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/delta-sorry-for-not-kicking-pro-trump-passenger-off-plane/?ftag=CNM-00-10aab6a&linkId=31625508
Just in case the left and the media are still scratching their heads trying to figure out why the polls were so wrong leading up to the election, it would be because lots of people just kept quiet that they were supporting Trump as they were tired of being called all sorts of ridiculous things by the liberal left.  The silent (closet) voter.  Not racist, not stupid, not homophobic, just tired of corruption and the same old same old in DC.

Funny how when everyone thought Hillary was winning they all said the results needed to be accepted and Trump needed to be a good loser but as soon as he won everyone starts demanding we abandon the electoral college and do a vote recount.

Jill Stein--'Oy-vay,' who is she kidding, pretending to be on Hillary's side. If Jill would had not run for President there's the 50,000  votes that might had gone to Hillary, she was the spoiler just like Ralph Nadar in 2000. Thank you Jill!!!  Mahalo Nui Loa!

And BTW-- whats your point of the recall?Lining your pockets with millions and publicity for whatever you decide to run for next?

Mr. Trump already acting presidential and doing what he promised before even tasking office.

This past week
Workers at the Carrier air-conditioning plant whose jobs are being saved cheered Donald Trump’s deal with the Indiana company to not relocate production to Mexico.

And even the White House applauded the deal.

Good work Mr. President elect, Can't wait until you take office and show  the haters that you will get things done!

Reflections of 2016

As this year comes to a close, I have begun to reflect on all those events and images that continue to run through my head. Family and friends health hurdles that we have survived, those who are no longer with us on this earth and those we are so thankful to still have with us.

I spend more time thinking of my own mortality and retirement since I am in my 60's now and wish like hell I could turn back the clock to those years when all our family and friends were still with us.

Once again I am reminded how fragile our lives are and how each day is a gift. I reflect on those who have touched my life and to those I have in some way touched as well and look forward to the future in anticipation.

As we once again spend our time with family and friends for the holiday season; I am grateful we can still continue our traditions and feel blessed at this time of year. No one is free from sadness in our lives but we all have the ability to re wind and remember what brings us happiness in the present and in the future.

I'm Giving thanks to the present and hope everyone can do the same. May you all continue to make happy memories and start 2017 with a mind set of good things to come.

Who Will Get to the Pearly Gates

Dolly Parton ,the one with the big boobs or Queen Elizabeth, the one with the small boobs went to the Pearly Gates on the same day.

They both met with an angel to find out if they would be admitted to Heaven.
The angel said: "Unfortunately, there's only one space in Heaven today so I must decide which one of you will be admitted."
The angel asked Dolly if there was some particular reason why she should go to Heaven? Dolly took off her top and said: "Look at these, they're the most perfect breasts God ever created and I'm sure it will please God to be able to see them every day, for eternity."

The angel thanked Dolly, and asked Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth the same question.

The Queen walked over to a toilet, pulled the lever and flushed it without saying a word.

The Angel immediately said: "OK, your Majesty, you may go into Heaven."

Dolly was outraged and asked, "What was that all about? I showed you two of God's own perfect creations and you turned me down. She simply flushed a commode and she got admitted to Heaven! Would you explain that to me?

"Sorry, Dolly," said the Angel, "but even in Heaven, a royal flush beats a pair - no matter how big they are."

The election is over

Have you heard where the Democrats want the electoral college to do a recount on Dec. 19, 2016 and make Hillary the President?

Well, I want to do a recount form every super bowl that my favorite team did not win the Vince Lombardi trophy.

Everybody does not get a trophy.

Breaking news; therapy dogs are  being prescribed more than Prozac and the art stores cannot keep crayons and coloring books on the shelves.

Hillary conceded, the election is over. Unless of course  we can change the score of every NFL gamer played last week?

P.S.
I'm glad I drink diet coke or generic cola that ison sale, never was a Pepsi person!
Pepsi owns Gatorade, Lay's potato chips, Frito's, Doritos and Cheetos.
This woman,Indra Nooyi
has already out sourced most of their
hi-tech work to an Indian consortium
so she would look good to her countrymen,
however she wasted a lot of money and hurt a
lot of American workers.

Trump is our captain, and is on our side

Donald Trump single-handedly took on the failing Republican party. He won the Republican primary being the last man standing out of 17 candidates. While key Republicans and ex-presidents told him he was nuts and could not succeed and pledged not to vote for him. The mainstream media made him to look like a non-candidate. Donald Trump has reinvented the Republican party and finally the Republicans realize his genius and now has the speaker of the house Paul Ryan acting as his lap dog after being an enemy for so many months.
Trump owns over 500 businesses from real estate in numerous countries and is a reality TV star. You cannot discount this man’s genius of employing tens of thousands of people and supplying livelihoods for them and their families.
America needs to give President-elect Trump a chance. Why all the protesting before he even steps foot in office? The Democrats need to get a grip and accept the loss. Remember, there were many people who voted Obama in 2008 and 2012, whom also voted for Trump. Many forget this statistic.
Many of the liberals seem to be the most intolerant (alleged tolerant) people I have ever seen.
Remember John Lennon’s song, “Give peace a chance?”
I say to all the protesters who are protesting nothing thus far:
Just give Trump (Peace) a chance!
I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Mr.Trump’s ego is too big to do anything besides be successful!
President-elect Trump is our captain, our leader and is on our side! He is the guy you wanted as the leader of your little league team. He’s not the guy you wanted to play against. Folks, we’ve got him on our team!

"Husband Wanted..." 'Ivanka Da Dog' (Source)

Ivanka Da Dog is a life long resident of Hawaii.
Ivanka can be seen cruising Kapa'a town
with her best friend James "Kimo" Rosen!
Hope you smile or laugh after reading this!

 Husband Wanted

A lonely 70-year-old widow decided that it was time to marry again. She put an ad in the local newspaper that read: "Husband wanted! Must be in my age group, must not beat me, must not run around on me and must still be good in bed. All applicants please apply in person."

The following day, she heard the doorbell. Much to her dismay, she opened the door to see a gray-haired gentleman sitting in a wheelchair. He had no arms or legs.

"You're not really asking me to consider you, are you?" the widow asked: "Just look at you -- you have no legs!"

The old gent smiled: "Therefore, I cannot run around on you!"

"You don't have any arms either!" she snorted.

Again, the old man smiled: "Therefore, I can never beat you!"

She raised an eyebrow and asked intently: "Are you still good in bed?"

The old man leaned back, beamed a big smile and said: "I rang the doorbell, didn't I?"

Facebook, Politics, God and Fact checking

People come onto my Facebook Timeline at times with harsh criticisms.

A Facebook Timeline is not a newspaper or blog. A Facebook timeline is your home, your living room so to speak where you have invited friends to visit you on Facebook.

I never go onto a friends Facebook page no matter how much I may disagree with them and start an argument or say harsh words to them  because they may have posted something political or otherwise I may disagree with. Instead I say nothing.

I would never say nasty comments to those whom don't believe in the same God or political beliefs as myself. I may totally disagree with you but your living room (Facebook timeline)is not the place to do it. The only time I may do so is if someone posts a false news story I may send them the corrected  fact check from Snopes or other mostly reliable fact checkers.

Newspapers and public forums are the place to release your aggression not on a friends Facebook page even though they may have a difference of opinion.

Social media  with so many fake news stories has not helped matters. People need to fact check before sharing and re-posting a news story or meme just because it fits their political agendas.

I can handle criticism and over the years have developed a thick skin from being an opinion columnist in the Garden Island news and a blogger. I candle the criticism however people's Timelines  deserve respect. Remember you are visiting a friends living room.

I think the world was a better place before social media, people didn't think out loud which has gotten so many of us in trouble including me. Respect has been lost in social media and in friendships.

Maybe it's time we did what we did as kids--just go over a friends house without calling and see if they want just want to go out and play.
