The Garden Island newspaper recently published an article titled, “Residents torn over plastic bag ban.” This article tells it all, the story of a dysfunctional county council. This whole plastic bag ban mess should had been decided by the people of our great cosmic island, not seven overpaid narcissists who won a popularity contest.
The County of Kaua‘i in association with the Kaua‘i Humane society supplies free plastic bags at approximately six dispensers along the beautiful pedestrian trail. It’s ironic our dogs are allowed plastic for their feces, but we can’t use plastic for groceries or food items.
Trees are used to make paper bags. I thought we originally switched to plastics because we didn’t want to destroy the rain-forests.
We went 100 giant steps backward, the grocery stores are now using paper bags, 1,000 paper bags piled high, or 1,000 plastic piled high, guess which is smaller and costs less to freight?
If council is so concerned about the environment quit being hypocrites and ride a bike, walk, or bus to the next county council meeting, and donate your $500 a month car allowance toward the state budget crisis
note this blog appeared an an opinion article on 03-09-11 in the Kaua'i garden island news!

"Duh, winning..!"
The recent media blitz showing Charlie Sheen In his numerous rants and meltdowns has created huge ratings for network and cable news shows, along with many parodies on comedy and talk shows.
Charlie Sheen was fired from his sit-com, "Two and a Half men" he was the highest paid actor in sit-com history at 2 million a show, most of us don't make that kind of money in a lifetime. I watched his show one time, and really did not see any reason to watch again.
Charlie is melting down before America's eyes, sure his rants are entertaining and actually think his real life drama is more funny than his award winning sit-com.

(recent SNL skit)
The fun is over, if we maintain putting all this attention on Charlie and keep being drawn into this para social phenomena, not only will Charley Sheen self destruct but we as American people are on our way to much of the same.
Call it an Obsession by the American people, call it a meltdown, call it what ever you wish, we are encouraging his rants and laugh. I am guitly myslef, but when Charlie is six feet under who will have the last laugh?

"There's a law for everything..."
It seems everyday there's a host of new laws being approved, locally and nationally.
There are laws against possessing toy guns in some states, laws against smoking even in ones home, laws to protect seals whales, seabirds, fruit flies and many other animals, there's even laws against oral sex in some states.
What's next, a law to say one cannot fart in ones own home? ;D)
"The perfect diet food, or is it..?"
Why do people believe salads to be the ideal and perfect diet food?
Believe it or not Burger King offers a side salad for only $1.49, it's rated as having only 40 calories. The clincher is that the Caesar, Ranch, Honey mustard dressings that come with the salad have 270 calories per 2 ounce serving.
Looking further into the the menu I noticed the value french fries made in non trans-fat oils have only 220 calories.
There is a reason 'french fries' are referred to as 'freedom fires!' Freedom to eat what you want!
This brings to mind one of my favorite geometric theories; reasoning based upon observation is not very sound!
All Together 1-2-3- FREEDOM FRIES!

"There has been talk of a soda pop tax which in reality already exists..."
Recycling centers in the state of Hawaii are poorly located and are open limited hours intentionally.
There has been talk of a soda pop tax which in reality already exists, because most cans and bottles are never returned, thus the state does not return the money but keeps it as revenue.
The Government is trying to fool us again, do you really think they care about recycling? If the state cared, or even if our local county really cared there would be an user friendly way to return your bottles and cans.
The store you bought your bottles and cans needs to start accepoting returns. It then becomes a win win for everyone, more bottles and cans out of the landfill and people vsiting their local stores more often. This is already done in many states.
The only problem is that the state would be retuning more deposits, which really isn't a problem unless your an overpaid politician with a large monthly car allowance and health insurance most would sacrifice their mother-in-law for.

"We will continue to slowly but surely self destruct..."
To become a doctor you must serve an internship followed by a residency.
To become a lawyer you must pass a very difficult exam called "The Bar."
To become a politician you must be a U.S citizen and reside in the city or county you wish to run in for political office.
The other requirements; you need to be at least 18 years of age and not have any felony convictions on record. Many politician have passed the bar exam but not the one that takes any intellect, just the one that makes one woozy.
Until we raise the standard for those pursuing a political career we will continue to slowly but surely self destruct.

"Take out the easy chairs..."
The recent announcement by 'Borders' of Kauai to shut it's doors has many residents writing Letters in support of keeping the store open. There's even a facebook page that was born to Save 'Borders Kaua'i.' The people of Kaua'i love their "Borders."
Border's needs to take out the easy chairs and coffee shop, maybe then they'd sell more books in in this cyber electronic age, just maybe?
One of Borders problem's was the coffee shop and all the lounge chairs. People go in to read, relax and have coffee or tea while reading an expensive book or magazine they never intend to buy.
