The Angel at the Kapaa Bus stop

Why would someone  choose to camp out in public verses finding a nice quiet place, which is relatively easy to do on our cosmic friendly aloha spirited island.

Humans like to be recognized. Ask anybody in the practice of psychology, most of us want our 15 minutes of fame? Many people whom have been part of society and have never received any form of  notoriety will make
themselves visible to draw attention to themselves. This is there way of getting their 15 minutes of fame, in their minds of being somewhat famous.

Many of us get our 15 minute fix from our family, work, social life or even writing letters to the editor as one person I know pretty well.  ;-)

This brings us to the story of the lady whom has resided for the last 11 months at the bus stop fronting the Kapaa neighborhood center. I have always smiled and waved to her over the last year. The other day for the first time I personally met the woman I  call "The Angel at the Kapaa bus stop!"   Her name is "ElAina.  "Aina" is land in Hawaiian and "El" means in God, strength and power in Hebrew.
Ivanka Obama and her new friend
El-Aina. You can see her feet
are very swollen.

ElAina is studying for her Doctorate in theology. She is camping at the Kapaa neighborhood center bus stop and being obedient to the Lord because he has told her to remain in one spot although she has gout, swollen feet and legs 4-5 times the normal size, however remains obedient to Jesus Christ her Lord and savior and  will not leave the bus stop.

She says all medical tests are negative and is currently on no medications even though she can barley walk. She gets by on her monthly SSI disability stipend.

She was originally camping at Kealia beach but got robbed of all her possessions including her ID. The bus stop gives her a feeling of safety and security. We did not get into detail but ElAina used to run Marathons. She was born and raised in Fairfax Virginia and is a US Army veteran who served 3 years active duty on Oahu at Scoffield  barracks. She has one son whom currently resides on the mainland.

Many in the community come by and offer help in housing and medical care and she denies them. She will accept offerings of food and favors of running errands to buy her a plate lunch and fetch her some water to take a sponge bath behind her umbrella and plastic shower curtain done very discretely.

Many believe she should not be occupying this public bench at the bus stop?  This special spot is  her love, people recognize her, people come by to pray with her--in fact she loves when people pray with her because every time someone prays with her her legs feel worse and she feels eventually this will make it possible for her to get a new pair of legs.
El-Aina always enjoys when cars
honk and wave at her. Please
stop by and talk story, she will
make your day that much better!

I asked my psychologist friend what can be done?   He said, if she was arrested she would probably only be back at the bus stop  after time served and if you write her a ticket, how is she going to pay?   She is not interested in moving and there are not  any laws/ordinances that prevent her from being there."

The sad  truth he said, the only way she will ever get help is when she passes out on that bench and somebody calls 911 and she goes to the emergency room, from there the ball might get rolling?
Right after I met El-Aina , the most
awesome sunset appeared on my way
home....

She also answers any questions you may have about time and schedules of the bus, she has the routes memorized.
I am hoping soon one of our community members working in the field of mental health and human services will figure this out in a way ElAina will agree to get the help she so desperately needs before it's too late.

In the mean time, wave to her when you drive by, and if your walking by stop and talk story,  she will make your day that much better.

She really is the Angel at bus stop. Oh, and one more thing, thank  you for your service, ElAina

P.S.
For those who missed my Facebook post last week about my Costco experience;

OMG ! I am Freaking out right now !!!

I went to Costco today as is my norm on Monday. So, I'm waiting in line and I dropped a $20 bill. The lady in front of me picked it up. I thanked her and told her that it was mine and she said, "The things found on earth are kept by the collector," and WALKS AWAY!!!!!!!

I looked at the person behind me standing in line, who looked just as shocked as me!!!!! I said, "Woah, Do I look like an ATM? Give me back my $20!" She had the nerve to walk away. I quickly followed this lady into the parking lot. She was clearly walking at a fast pace to get away from me. When she got to her car she put the bags on the ground to open the trunk. I was PISSED!!!! And BAM! I decided that her "finders keepers" rule just presented the perfect opportunity for revenge, so I grabbed her grocery bags, smirked, and then said "The things found on earth are kept by the collector!" and ran to catch my bus which ironically just happened to be pulling up and got in. That lady started yelling!!! The bus driver asked if every thing was Ok? I said fine brah! I was nervous and mad but had a sense of satisfaction all at the same time. I can't say I've ever done anything like that in my life!! But check this out.... So I get situated in my seat on the bus and open the bags and what did I find?
10- lbs. of shrimp
7- rib eye steaks
7- porterhouse steaks
3- Fully cooked Rotisserie chickens the size of turkeys
And 3 cans of coffee
WOW! Not bad for $20 dollars! TALK ABOUT A COME UP....

In all seriousness though... I WISH!! Enjoy life, laugh lots & you can smack me later! BYE BYE... This has been edited from an original from my friend,Kuuleinani Napuanani Kaninau  ;-)

Mayoral race to be a cliffhanger

Kauai is blessed to have two candidates competing for the mayor-ship, each possessing wisdom, comprehension and knowledge of our cosmic island.
Both candidates currently running for mayor are serving on
the Kauai county council. Mel Rapozo is the chairman of the council and is
third from the left. Derek Kawakami is second from the right. Good luck to both!

Anybody else thinking of entering the race, their odds of political success are much greater on the County Council side, since both men must relinquish their current status on council to run for mayor, therefore opening up two seats.
Derek Kawakami, Miss Kauai  and
Mel Rapozo  back in 2013...
May the best man win!

Both these men were the top three vote-getters during the last council race, Derek Kawakami coming in first with 15,990 votes, and Mel Rapozo coming in third with 12,631 votes. Should anybody else decide to run against them they will have a run for their money. For the record, Arryl Kaneshiro came in second with 12,779 votes.

Many Kauai people including yours truly are friends with both Derek Kawakami and Mel Rapozo. How do we vote? This race is sure to be a cliffhanger.

Many of us will not come out publicly because of this, or people will lie, people will become the politician (Joke, because politicians are usually the liars). When speaking with Mel, we will tell him, you’ve got our vote, likewise when talking story with Derek, you’ve got my vote!

I only ask, don’t make this a popularity contest. Vote for the person you think will be a better mayor, not necessarily the person who has the better hand wave, better smile, or bought you the more expensive lunch.
James "Kimo" Rosen
with Mayor Carvalho
at the recent Mayor-a-thon.
Coconut wireless rumor has it
our Mayor is going
to run for Governor
after his term limits expire!

OK, here we go … In this corner we have Derek Kawakami, and in this corner we have Mel Rapozo. Both men more than qualified, both men of integrity. The question remains, can either of them sing as well as Mayor Carvalho? If so, that’s the one whom has my vote!

A throwback moment... Kimo Rosen  actually ran  for County council back
in 2012 when Derek Kawakami resigned to run for
State representative opening up a seat on county council, thus causing
a special run-off election which would be decided  by the sitting
council on whom should take over his seat.
I submitted my resume and bio along with 7 others.  KipuKai Kualii
was eventually selected by majority vote.

Derek Kawakami  went on to win as state representative
until last year when he relinquished his seat to run again
for Kauai county council to  be closer to home and family.

This past week was historical when the boy-scouts decided to accept
the girl scouts as members.
It was a politically correct move
encouraged by woman's groups across the nation,
 not the girl scouts themselves.
Enclosed is dakinetalk's
 favorite meme on this issue

Yes Dear, Trump bashing needs to stop

Blog #1964~Kimo's world #211

What does it do to other nations when our late night talk show hosts are constantly bashing our President?  Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers and Steven Colbert make a living of Trump bashing. These are not fun jokes about the president but rather humiliating, demoralizing rants against Trump.

Many of the Hollywood elite bash our President on a constant basis. It's rogue, it's the cool thing to do.Try and remember we are all on the same side and must create a united front to the enemies, otherwise we are beaten before we even begin.

The recent Emmy's that appeared on CBS are a recent example of a Trump bashing fest by the Hollywood elite.

The TV show "The View" is relentless on Donald Trump. They don't let up, from the way he shakes hands with dignitaries, to the shoes the  first lady wears.

The ladies are always making fun of his family, even his minor son Baron is not off limits for the woman of "The View."

"Real Time" with Bill Maher bashes and hates Trump, however Maher at least has other issues on his agenda. He also bashes Hillary and democrats. Maher is an equal opportunity comedian.

Late night with Steven Colbert is the ring leader and  has one punch line, it's Donald Trump.
His every joke is a slam against  President  Trump. A sad excuse for a comedian. A sad excuse to constantly demean your own President. In other countries one could be jailed for treason for speaking out against your president like this.

Remember the days of the old Tonight show with Jay Leno? Jay could joke in a respectful manner that was not insulting, but funny about both major political parties. Jay was so good at comedy you never knew what party he was affiliated with because his jokes were fun, not filled with hate-- something our late night comedians need to learn and take heed.

Do these modern day comedians not realize that even if they don't like President Trump, even if they hate him as much as they  publicly say they do, it  may not be in their best interest or our country's best interest to admit it and go on these rants and hate fests?   Do they not realize he is the most powerful man in the world and can at the snap of his fingers behind closed doors without you knowing order an IRS audit and so many other unimaginable audits to make your life a living hell?

Americans bashing our president is not good for our country. Our enemies delight in all this.

My advise to anyone whom doesn't like Donald Trump is to not go public with your hate. You may wind up harming yourself far beyond your wildest dreams. Believe me! Keep your hate to yourself about 45.

If you do not like "The Donald," there will be more elections, stay cool, he won this one. Live with it for Gods sake and in the mean time pretend you like him, it will make your life much more tolerable.

It's the equivalent for married men saying "Yes dear," even when they don't necessarily agree with their wives, the bennies (sic) far out weigh the repercussions.
P.S.
A Must see! Just last week,
late night comedian Seth Meyers gives the President the middle finger on national TV, check it out. Like Trump or not, this kind of behavior must stop!

This says it all about the current national anthem crisis and the NFL!
