Glenn Mickens deserves better

I am appalled at the letter to the letter in the Garden Island news  July 5, 2017 for numerous reasons.

"No one is listening"
http://thegardenisland.com/news/opinion/mailbag/letters-for-wednesday-july/article_a0632d05-b201-5dc6-ad91-5be445c664c0.html
A one sentence letter  from Ka’aona Kipuka to Mr. Glenn Mickens telling him  in the public forum--(enclosed is his letter in full) "Yet again another letter of absolute nothingness from our favorite “Watchdog” Mr. Mickens. Shhhhh! No one cares."
Glenn Mickens locally known
as the County watchdog and nitpicker.
Names he has become accustomed to
and does not mind being called.

Not true, I care and  know many  others on the Cosmic Garden island that care.

First, Mr.Kipuka obviously cares! He proves beyond a reasonable doubt basic psychology 101, "That only the guilty speak." Similar to the teacher asking , "who threw that spitball?" The first kid that raises his hand and say's , I didn't do it, did it! Busted Ka’aona.

Most important, Mr. Mickens is Kupuna and deserves and has earned respect.
Glenn  and I disagree on issues and can  debate in a gentlemanly way. Glenn is one the few that can disagree without name calling in a humane and gentlemanly manner, that is a lost art.

How many of you have a Wikipedia page? Mr. Mickens does, look it up!
How many of you played professional baseball or knew Jackie Robinson? Mr. Mickens had the honor!
I do not agree with Glenn on all political issues, I agree with Glenn that Kauai
The Ohio Air National Guard
200th Redhorse completes the
elevated switchback spur section, a
most intricate and complex portion
of the pedestrian trail.  I am pro trail
and Mr. Mickens  is anti trail.
We have debated this subject over the years
without name calling  or putting
the other guy down.

county should try a county manager style of government. We disagree on the current President, while many are unfriending each other, Glenn  and I can disagree and still be friends. We also disagree  on the pedestrian trail, however, we both respect each others opinions and have debated without name calling or putting the other guy down.

Mr. Mickens may be a nitpicker and watchdog, (names he enjoys by the way and is proud to be called) but without people like Mr. Mickens giving testimony at county council meetings and every other kind of open forum from traffic to new developments, things would be even worse than they are now. Mr. Mickens makes our politicians think and keeps them on their toes.  Mahalo Nui Loa Glenn.

I understand The Garden Island news wanting to give everyone a voice, however this was not a letter, this was one sentence of hate to an upstanding gentleman, caring citizen and KUPUNA of the Garden Island (Mr. Mickens) that deserves respect, whether you agree with him or not!
Glenn Mickens likes to talk story about
the 'good ole' days of baseball...

I know Glenn has developed thick skin over the years as have I, however, still that letter was uncalled for in so many ways...Why publish  hateful illiterate  rants against Kupuna in the community from a person whom doesn't even exist on Google or Facebook?

Mr. Mickens will be 87 years old on July 26th and I would like to publicly wish Mr. Mickens a big  "Hau`oli Lā Hānau" -Happy Birthday, in hopes this gets published before his birth-date and let him know Many people including myself  do care and although we all don't agree, we love you as part of the Aloha Ohana and community of the Garden Island.
Your pal,
James "Kimo" Rosen

Blog #1948~Kimo's world's #195~

Trump, the man that gave up his billionaire lifestyle to live in a bubble

There is a political meme with many different faces of "The Donald" that has been circulating  social media that reads;
" Trump, the man that gave up his billionaire lifestyle to be humiliated, ridiculed, and slandered in order to save the American people."

Can you imagine being a billionaire and being free to do whatever you want and enjoy whatever luxuriousness  in life you wish at your beckon call, then all the sudden they are taken away with a job you don't need?

Why would you give this up to be slandered, libeled and stressed beyond what most humans can  or would want to endure?

First, one must be driven, and one must be thick skinned to be the President of the free world, (President of the United States of America.)

According to Title 3 of the US Code, the US President "shall earn" a salary of $400,000, along with a $50,000 annual expense account, a $100,000 nontaxable travel account, and $19,000.

Donald J.Trump has not accepted a salary as President and is doing this all pro-bono as of this writing.

Imagine being President with billions of dollars of assets? Your old lifestyle of going to luxurious parties, enjoying life, driving  luxury and sport cars, or even taking a meditative walk on the beach? No longer can you do these things, secret service  watches your every move. You now live in a bubble.

I was walking alone on the beach the other night at sunset with my dog, 'Ivanka Obama' just reflecting, praying and enjoying the serenity of it all, moments like this are no longer possible as President.
For me, moments like these are what life is about. You lose this when sacrificing life to be the ultimate public servant. You now live in a bubble, like it or not.

President Obama when asked what he missed most, was exactly this, long walks on the beach alone to reflect.  Never again in a Presidents life will they have privacy. Even after their tenure as President has expired, they are still assigned secret service to watch over them.

Personally, I would go insane having people with me at all times. Imagine someone being outside the bathroom every time you do your business,   watching every move you make. I would wind up checking into the state mental hospital. I would not be able to handle not having my space.

Maybe Trump wants to expose the media for who they really  are? From here we can start making America great again?

Watching Donald Trump cause the complete meltdown of Hollywood, the destruction of the political dynasties on both sides, along with turning the mainstream media into nothing more than a glorified tabloid rag, shows again how one man defeated 17 Republicans in the primary and the Clinton dynasty.

The media does not let up, just this past week the left wing progressives Democrats are calling President Trump
complimenting a British reporter for having a nice smile as sexual harassment. How quick they all forget  Bill Clinton  having  extra martial affairs in the white-house, yet Donald Trump complimenting a journalist for a smile is sexual harassment?

Trump compliments a
reporter for having a nice smile
and the left calls it
sexual harassment?
Bill Clinton lies, has affairs
in the White-house
and yet he is a God
in the eyes of the
Democrats?

Next time you criticize Trump, think  to yourself, why did he sign up for this job,  he was (is) one of the wealthiest men in the world,  with one of the most beautiful wife's in the world, a beautiful and healthy family... Why sign up for all this abuse by the media  and people?

Is it true evil lurking as the left believes, or does Donald J. Trump truly believe he and his team are going to help save America?
Time will tell.

Happy Independence day,"Hau`oli Lā Hānau" Happy 241th Birthday America--and as for living in America, all I can say is , "How 'tweet' it is!" ;-)  (Get it?)

Epilogue;
From a Facebook comment;  Someone's definition....
The Democrat Party is the world’s most successful hate group. It attracts poor people who hate rich people, black people who hate white people, gay people who hate straight people, feminists who hate men, environmentalists who hate the internal combustion engine, and a lot of bratty college kids who hate their parents. However, the real secret of the party’s success is that it attracts the support of journalists who hate Republicans, and who therefore work tirelessly to convince the rest of us that we should vote for Democrats...

No matter who the Republicans nominate for president, the Organized Forces of Liberal Journalism will paint him as a greedy, cold-hearted, woman-hating racist. If the GOP nominated a Buddhist monk or a Latina lesbian, still the New York Times and NBC News would find a way to convince themselves that the Republican candidate represented everything liberals hate about America — the military, the police, Christianity, capitalism, the internal combustion engine and heterosexual white men who work for a living....

Jay Leno never should had been forced into early retirement. His show was # 1 in late night talk show ratings yet he retired and never wanted to go to another network. He could had destroyed NBC! I miss Jay and hiss class of humor. These new guys only know hate jokes. A different world now than the days of Carson and Leno.                                                                                                                                                     (Good read, please click below)

Solving Honolulu's rail crisis

A sudden epiphany overwhelmed me while watching the men and woman of the National guard working on the Hundley heights elevated switchback portion of the pedestrian trail from Kuhio Hwy to Mahelona on Kauai.

Kauai Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. has been very creative when funding ran out for the  continuance of the pedestrian trail. I don't know the details, or who was involved, or how he did it, but somehow got the National guard to finish a most complex trail system  with switchbacks to cut the high angle of the hike, all elevated and handrails making it  totally ADA approved.

There are 50 National Guards men and woman a day providing labor for this project compliments of Uncle Sam.

Sticks and stones and Bill Maher

Comedian Bill Maher apologized to his audience for using the "N" word in a recent episode of HBO's Real Time
after he used a racial epithet during an interview with Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Neb.

Sasse — who was promoting his new book, The  Vanishing AmericanAdult — invited Maher to visit Nebraska after the two talked about how adults in California still dress up for Halloween. "We’d love to have you work in the fields with us,” the senator told the comic.

"Work in the fields?" Maher replied. "Senator, I am a house (N-word).
 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prqM4Q9zQFE
The following week Maher had a show dedicated to apologizing for using the "N word."I did a bad thing," the host confessed to guest Michael Eric Dyson.
"For black folks, that word, I don't care who you are, it's caused pain. It doesn't matter that it was not said in malice, it caused pain and that's why I apologized."

Rapper and actor Ice Cube didn't let the host off as easily, jokingly telling him, "I knew you were gonna  mess up sooner or later. I love your show,
Bill Maher getting
a new one drilled
by Ice Cube
you got a great show, but you've been bucking up against that line a little bit. You've got a lot of black jokes."

Ice cube's lyrics are rampant with misogyny and homophobia. Hip hop culture is one of the greatest purveyors of gay hate. Is that okay? Can we make Ice cube go on an apology tour?

Funny how offended Ice Cube and other rap artists can get about the N word, which is bad of course--however in the same essence still refer to women as bitches, hoes and sluts. Maybe he and others should rethink what they say as well?

Like Ice Cube has never said something offensive or inappropriate? Give me a break. The guy built his career on it and he's lecturing Bill? Hate to say it but this is why Trump won. Take a lesson from the Donald as all liberals should, he doesn't bow to PC- BS.

Let me try and explain this; Jews can tell Jewish jokes, as a Jew I tell Jewish jokes-- but get offended when a gentile tells a Jewish joke.  My neighbor says as a woman, its the equivalent of calling your girlfriends bitches in an endearing manner but as soon as a man calls one of you a bitch, its on!  The N word is the same for black people, black people can say it,  but white people can't.

Maher has been a big proponent of black rights over the years. He made a mistake.

Use your words wisely, there are many hateful trolls wanting nothing more and gather joy from bringing people down.

What ever happened to that expression my homies and I used as kids, "sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me. "

Epilogue;
Maher always pushes the envelope, it's in his DNA

Time to Lower political rhetoric

It's time to lower the temperature
on the political rhetoric.
http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/five-victims-in-shooting-at-us-congress-baseball-practice/ar-BBCFSOh?li=BBnbcA1
What did you think would happen? With all the bickering, hate and civil discourse with many Americans not accepting Trump as President,  it was only a matter of time until a political assassination attempt would occur.
http://www.cnn.com/2017/06/14/politics/gallery/virginia-gop-shooting/index.html
The shooting at the GOP baseball practice is a wake up call of what can happen and continue if Americans don't lower the political rhetoric.
Congressman Scalise  was shot in
the hip during a baseball practice
for a charity ball game between
the republicans and democrats.
He is  said to be OK! Five others
were injured during the shootout before
the gunman was taken down and killed.
The gunman is a former Bernie
 Sanders supporter.

Friends and family no longer speak to each other-- some are calling this America's second Civil war, although there is nothing civil about what's happening in America. America is on it's way to hell.  It's time to be one America.
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/06/14/virginia-gop-baseball-practice-shooting-multiple-people-shot.html

"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

Publishers note;
My blog about political rhetoric (this blog) is in the June 20, 2017 edition of the  Garden Island news after being in the Star-Advertiser, However the Garden Island news added "God" to the pledge of allegiance thanks to my friend Kuuleinani Napuanani Kaninau for pointing out that I left out "God" in my original pledge of allegiance.   Read the enclosed version, the best version yet appears in my favorite newspaper, The Garden Island news!  If you like this opinion piece please click recommend on the enclosed link!  Mahalo.

http://thegardenisland.com/news/opinion/mailbag/letters-for-tuesday-june/article_395cf576-5add-5dc9-901d-3ebbeb708de2.html

...and then in the June 23,2017 edition of Honolulu Staradvertiser, (The states largest newspaper)  The writer is correct and when I submitted this same opinion article to the Garden Island news It did it indeed have 'God' in It.    My bad, they are right.  This was originally brought to my attention by friend,  Kuuleinani Napuanani Kaninau
(Copy and pasted for your viewing  since Staradvertiser has a paywall)
America prospers through faith in God

It is indeed time to tone down the vitriol in political rhetoric, as James Rosen points out (“Tone down vitriol in political rhetoric,” Star-Advertiser, Letters, June 16). This is a symptom of our greater problem in continually moving away from our foundations as a nation, as George Washington reminded us in his farewell address from the presidency: “Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports.” Rosen said it is time to be one America, but then leaves out God in quoting the Pledge of Allegiance. The correct wording is: “I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
May we as a people truly seek God’s blessing on America by living His way.
Frank Lutz- McCully-Moiliili

....And another Letter to the Editor in reply to this short opinion piece of mine just stating
that we need to tone things down, yet the left still insist it's all Trumps fault.?
